Hey {{first name | friend}}!

I used to think storytelling was this mysterious art form.

Like you needed some special gift or creative writing degree to do it right.

Spent months avoiding it because I thought "I'm not a storyteller."

Either way...

Turns out I was completely wrong about what a story even is.

And in this email, I'll show you the actual definition that changed how I create content forever.

Let's dive in.

The Definition That Removed All The Fear

Here's what I learned:

A story is just... something that happened.

That's it.

Real or fictional. Past or present. Big or small.

If something happened and you tell someone about it, it's a story.

Now, don't worry...

This doesn't mean it's a good story or an engaging story or a story that sells.

But it's a story nonetheless.

You see:

You don't need to be Shakespeare.

You don't need to write the next great novel.

You just need to tell people about stuff.

Stuff that happened. Stuff that could happen. Stuff that might happen.

(This realization honestly removed like 90% of my storytelling anxiety lol)

Why This Matters For Your Business

Most founders freeze up when they hear "storytelling."

They think it means:

  • Creating elaborate fictional narratives

  • Being super creative and entertaining

  • Having dramatic, movie-worthy experiences

Nope.

It just means sharing what happened.

Client call went badly? Story. Launch flopped? Story. Random realization at 2am? Story.

All of it counts.

The Real Question

Okay so if a story is just "something that happened"...

How do you make it good?

How do you make it engaging?

How do you make it sell?

That's what the rest of this week is about.

Tomorrow I'm breaking down the framework that's been used for thousands of years to tell the most powerful stories in human history.

(And no, it's not complicated. Well... it is. But I'm simplifying it lol)

Your Turn

Think about your day today.

What happened that was slightly interesting, frustrating, or surprising?

That's a story.

Write it down in your notes app.

Just one sentence: "Today, [thing that happened]."

Tomorrow I'll show you how to structure it.

Till then...
