Happy Friyay {{first name | Reader}}!
I spent 6 months knowing these 4 story structures.
But I kept using the wrong one for everything and wondering why my content wasn't converting.
And in this email, I'll show you exactly which structure to use when so you don't waste 6 months like I did.
Let's dive in.
(Before we jump in, this is the final day of the story structure series. If you want help implementing these for YOUR specific business, reply "STORY" and I'll show you what I see.)
The Map I Wish I Had
Back when I first learned these structures...
I thought I was so smart, right?
Transformation Arc. Vision Builder. Drama Hook. Problem-Solution Loop.
I knew them all.
Either way...
I'd sit down to write a sales page and think, "Which one do I use?"
And I'd just... guess.
Sometimes I'd use Transformation Arc for a quick DM pitch.
(Which, let's face it, is way too long for a DM lol)
Or I'd try to use Drama Hook structure for my entire About page.
Just... wrong tool for every job.
Now, don't worry...
I eventually figured this out.
Now, to be completely honest with you...
At first, I couldn't understand why knowing the structures didn't automatically make me better at using them.
Because, let's face it...
Knowing and doing are completely different things, right?
But, you know what?
Recently, I actually came to the shocking revelation about when to use each one.
And that's because it's something based on what you're trying to accomplish...
The 4 Jobs (One Structure Each)
Now, this one thing...
Is something that works over and over in just about every piece of content I create.
Each structure has ONE job:
Transformation Arc = Origin stories and case studies Vision Builder = Sales pages and future casting Drama Hook = Attention-grabbing (first 3 seconds) Problem-Solution Loop = Quick pitches and explanations
Want to know the decision framework?
Yes?
Ok, you ready for it?
Cool, here it is:
If they don't know you exist → Drama Hook (stop the scroll)
If they're interested but not convinced → Vision Builder (show possibility)
If they need your journey → Transformation Arc (take them through it)
If they just need to know what you do → Problem-Solution Loop (tell them clearly)
You see?
Different situations need different structures.
How To Actually Use This
Here's where it gets interesting...
You don't just use one structure per thing.
You layer them.
Sales page:
Opening: Drama Hook
Your story: Transformation Arc
Main offer: Vision Builder
Service breakdown: Problem-Solution Loop
All four. One page.
LinkedIn post:
First sentence: Drama Hook
Body: Mini Transformation Arc
Ending: Problem-Solution Loop
Three structures. One post.
(This is how the best content actually works)
Common Mistakes I Made
Mistake 1: Using Transformation Arc for everything
Just because you learned your origin story doesn't mean every piece of content needs it.
Mistake 2: Skipping Drama Hooks
Lead with chaos. Always.
Mistake 3: Overcomplicating simple pitches
Problem-Solution Loop. 30 seconds. Done.
Mistake 4: Never combining structures
Layer them strategically.
Your Turn
Here's what to do this weekend:
Pick your main offer. Write it using Problem-Solution Loop.
Next week: Expand your About page using Transformation Arc.
Week 3: Rewrite 5 LinkedIn posts with Drama Hooks.
Week 4: Create one sales page using all 4 structures layered.
The Truth
They're not complicated.
The Transformation Arc doesn't create your story. It organizes it.
The Vision Builder doesn't invent transformation. It shows it.
The Drama Hook doesn't manufacture chaos. It leads with it.
The Problem-Solution Loop doesn't create your offer. It clarifies it.
You already have the content.
These structures just help you arrange it so it actually lands.
So in short:
Each structure has one job Match the structure to the situation Layer them for complex content Start simple, build from there
This was the final day, but honestly I think it's one of the most important ones because knowing when to use what changes everything.
Till next time...
Stephen
